Our 10th Annual Shoebox Project has begun, with donations open until May 17. This initiative provides festively decorated shoeboxes full of daily essentials like shampoo, toothpaste, wipes, deodorant and more to people in need.

In 2023, over $100,000 in everyday essentials and 5,000 shoeboxes were given out to families in San Antonio. This year our goal is to reach $100,000 in basic necessities again and distribute 8,000 shoeboxes to residents. We can only accomplish this with the support of the public, who can donate today in a number of ways including:

  • On United Way’s website
  • By texting SHOEBOXUWSA to 41444
  • By dropping off hygiene supplies or shoeboxes full of supplies at either:
    • United Way’s office at 700 S. Alamo Street
    • San Antonio Food Bank at 5200 Historic Old Hwy 90 W

The Shoebox Project provides peace of mind and critical relief to people in need by supporting them with everyday essentials that many take for granted. The lack of these basic necessities can negatively impact an individual’s mental and physical health. With 46% of Bexar County residents living with financial hardship, donating to the Shoebox Project will provide relief to our community’s children, veterans, elderly and houseless populations.

Donations will be accepted through May 17. Both individual basic necessities and shoeboxes filled with supplies can be donated. Items needed include basic comforts like toothpaste, shampoo, baby wipes, deodorant, hand sanitizer, tampons, hair combs, adhesive bandages, toothbrushes, toothpaste and more.

For a full list of items accepted, please visit our website.
