September is National Preparedness Month and in honor of this and the 25th anniversary of 9/11, United Way volunteers came together to prepare over 1,000 Emergency Preparedness Kits for local families.
These kits included items necessary for emergencies where individuals find themselves without electricity, food or water. Each kit came with essential items like the following and more:
- Instant cold packs
- Whistles
- Lights
- Medicine, bandages
- First aid kits
- Emergency blankets
Each Emergency Preparedness Kit also included items like rain ponchos, hygiene bags and coloring activities to help small children pass the time during an unexpected crisis. 50+ volunteers from organizations like Texas Organ Sharing Alliance, Wells Fargo and Oracle assembled the 1,000 kits. Several of United Way’s Strong Individuals and Families Impact Partners have received these kits, which they will give out to the families they serve at no cost.
United Way invests in resources that help individuals and families regain stability when disaster strikes. Whether it is a natural disaster related to weather, job loss, rising utility costs or the summer heat, being better prepared for when crisis hits is critical for everyone in the community.
