FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -United Way’s 2-1-1 needs your support to ensure that San Antonio’s social services helpline assists residents as effectively as possible. We are encouraging residents to support through a gift of $2.11, $21.11 or more so that our 2-1-1 call center can better assist residents facing challenges like food insecurity, the high costs of housing and child care, education and more.

While 2-1-1 receives partial support from the State of Texas, state funding remained stagnant for 14 years despite rising operational costs until a modest increase was approved during the 88th Legislative Session last year. With the 89th Legislative Session almost a year away, 2-1-1 needs your support today.

How exactly will donating to United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County enable 2-1-1 to better serve the community?

  • It will help reduce wait times for callers as call volume in San Antonio has increased significantly. In 2022, the 2-1-1 Helpline received 179,000 calls.
  • Will allow for critical technology and communications enhancements to improve efficiency.

United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County manages the 2-1-1 call center for the Alamo Region, which includes Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Frio, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, Medina and Wilson counties.

“We appreciate the recent increase in funds but also know that barriers to success like the cost of housing, child care, education and food access become more difficult to overcome every day,” said Chris Martin, CEO and President of United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County. “There is still more support necessary to ensure 2-1-1 can continue to meet these growing community needs so that residents can be more effectively connected to crucial resources.”

Residents in need of support in San Antonio are encouraged to call 2-1-1 and select option 1 to be connected with a call specialist today. 2-1-1 uses a comprehensive database of local resources that can provide relief with our city’s most critical challenges and is available 24/7/365 at no cost.
