FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –There is only one month left for tax season and that means San Antonio residents can use the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) until April 15 to file their taxes for free.

VITA is brought to the community through a partnership between United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County, Catholic Charities and the City of San Antonio. Residents with household income up to $60,000 can visit any of the 13 VITA sites throughout the community to have their taxes prepared by a trained, friendly tax preparer at no cost. Each location also offers services in Spanish.

In 2024 so far VITA has:

  • Connected residents to $20.74 million in tax refunds
  • Saved filers $2.8 million in tax-preparation fees
  • Filed taxes for more than 12,600 residents

To reach more residents this year, VITA pop-up sites have been hosted throughout the city in locations other than the main 13 sites which are open Monday through Friday. This includes a mobile VITA unit that meets residents at key locations in the community to better serve our city’s most vulnerable populations.

VITA services are available at 13 locations throughout San Antonio and Fredericksburg until April 15. Select locations offer refund anticipation loans to VITA filers at select locations, with absolutely no fees or interest charged.
