United Way’s 2026 Power of the Purse auction raised a record $385,000 to fund the United Way Child Care Scholarship, the signature cause of Women United.
Held at the Witte Museum, Power of the Purse is an annual purse auction hosted by Women United, a membership group powered by United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County.
Many parents with young children in the community find themselves focused on survival and unable to pursue greater economic stability with a college degree. That is why the United Way Child Care Scholarship exists: to empower parents to pursue their education without worrying about the high cost of child care.
This tremendous result of $385,000 will uplift families through the United Way Child Care Scholarship, which provides free, subsidized child care to parents pursuing job training or higher education.
On average, the United Way Child Care Scholarship pays for $14,000 in child care for scholarship recipients, with some families receiving as high as $30,000 for having multiple children in quality early child care centers.
Purses sold at the auction included designer handbags from Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Chanel and more brands. At the event, United Way also honored Corinna Holt Richter with the Joci Straus Visionary Award, presented to her by her brother and Spurs owner Peter Holt.

Even the Spurs Coyote came out to support Power of the Purse.
This year’s successful Power of the Purse would not be possible without event co-chairs, Julie Bedingfield and Carrie Dyer, Women United members and of course, everyone who attended the event.
The United Way Child Care Scholarship makes a life-altering impact for parents like Lola, who is leveling up her career today as she works to become a teacher while her son receives quality early learning through the United Way Child Care Scholarship.
