On February 11, or 2/11, we want to thank our 2-1-1 call specialists for providing hope and help.
In a crisis, in a disaster, in a pandemic, United Way’s 2-1-1 Helpline helps our community connect to resources for:

  • Childcare
  • Disaster Relief
  • Employment
  • Financial Counseling
  • Food
  • Legal Assistance
  • Physical/Mental Health Services
  • Stable Housing
  • Tax Preparation
  • Utility Bills
  • Veteran Services
  • And many other essential services

2-1-1 call specialists are essential workers and have shown up every day, fielded more requests than ever and helped people navigate the various health, education and economic impacts of our pandemic environment.

From the first hello, someone in crisis is reaching a real person who can provide a connection to help. Calls are free, confidential and can be conducted in English or Spanish.

Many people in crisis don’t know where to turn for help. 2-1-1 call specialists are trained to identify and address the underlying root causes of a client’s problem, then connect them with a wide range of available resources that meet all the underlying needs, not just the one that prompted the call.

It’s amazing how much a single phone conversation can accomplish. If that call is to 2-1-1, it can connect people with housing, utility assistance and food, the top requests from callers in 2021.

Our special 2-1-1 MISSION UNITED Military Navigators can assist active duty, and fellow Veteran and military families in navigating the maze of health and human service programs available in the San Antonio area. Callers are connected to the best military or Veteran resources and benefit information based on branch of service, status of service including Veterans and active duty, and by category, such as behavioral health, education and employment, financial assistance and more.

2-1-1 Helpline has 25 area information centers (AIC) in Texas. Our Alamo AIC is one of the few call centers always answering calls. Although Alamo AIC takes calls from all over Texas, it primarily serves Bexar County as well as Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, Medina, and Wilson Counties.

Here’s how to reach United Way’s 2-1-1 Helpline: simply dial 2-1-1 (the toll-free number is 877-541-7905.) Search for services online or chat at www.211texas.org. If you have a hearing impairment, dial 7-1-1 and ask to be connected to 2-1-1.

Thank you for supporting our 2-1-1 team by donating to United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County to make sure this important resource continues its mission to help — 24/7/365.
