Child Care Scholar Spotlight: LolaThe Security to Learn, Grow and Succeed |
|
A mother of a 4-year-old, Lola, did not have reliable access to child care for her son until she received the United Way Child Care Scholarship. She found herself forced to focus on her family’s survival and was unable to pursue opportunities in her education and career.
“We went to the food bank weekly,” Lola said. “I was unemployed, had no car and no savings,” she admits. “Reliable child care meant a safe place for my child to grow and develop while I focused on my career, education and finances.”
Since becoming a United Way Child Care Scholar, Lola has been able to level up her career at USAA and work toward her goal of becoming a teacher. With another baby on the way, Lola has a stronger foundation to support her family. “I am deeply motivated by my family, I work hard for our future, our stability and to be a great role model,” she said.
Lola is putting the work in today so she can take the next steps for her career, “no matter the risks.” Most of all, she is strengthening her family so they can achieve their dreams in the future.
“Our future consists of our dreams of being happy, doing good work and being good people,” Lola said.
The United Way Child Care Scholarship empowers parents like Lola to achieve their dreams and is the signature cause of Women United. Women United is one of the U.S.’s largest women’s philanthropy groups that unites its members in their shared passion for community impact.
