United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County received $86,240 in basic necessity donations from the community during the 11th annual Shoebox Project. Items including baby wipes, combs, shampoo, soap, deodorant and others have been given out to people in need throughout the community.

350 United Way volunteers packaged festively decorated thousands of shoeboxes, each filled with daily essentials like soap, deodorant, baby wipes, combs, shampoo, tampons, toothbrushes and more. These shoeboxes have been given out to families served by United Way’s Safety Net Impact partners. In total 4,312 shoeboxes stuffed full of daily essentials were given out this year to 16 nonprofit agencies.

Not having these daily essentials can have a negative impact on the mental and physical well-being of thousands of residents.

With 46% of Bexar County residents living with financial hardship, these basic necessities can provide some financial and emotional relief to children, families, veterans, houseless individuals and elderly in the community.

If you or someone you know is experiencing financial hardship, difficulties with housing, food insecurity or other challenges to stability, please call United Way’s 211 Helpline. It is available 24/7/365, is anonymous and completely free. Trained call specialists guide callers on where to find resources that can provide relief.
