United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County hosted a fun-filled day of activities, learning and support at “Family Day” on July 13. Held at the United Way Eastside Family Resource Center (FRC), “Family Day” saw more than 1,000 parents and their children enjoy educational activities, live music, face painting, a bubble station and more. Most of all, the families toured the Family Resource Center and learned about the many forms of support it offers.

In addition to the festivities, families in attendance received pre-packaged food kits, backpacks full of school supplies and more. More than $10,000 in food and school supplies were distributed to families!

This Eastside Family Resource Center is a community-based welcoming hub of support services and opportunities for families. Visitors to the Family Resource Center can always speak with a trained bilingual Family Support Specialist to navigate resources to address challenges residents face including food insecurity, housing, childcare, education and much more. The Family Resource Center also offers a variety of basic necessities in their Family Care Closet, which is sponsored by Broadway Bank, a children’s book & toy library and a kid’s corner which are all free to use and are available to the community.

If you find yourself in need of support related to safe housing, career training, education, food insecurity or other barriers to success, please visit the Eastside Family Resource Center or call United Way’s 2-1-1 Helpline to discover community resources that can help provide stability.

Together we distributed 80 food boxes, 51 bags of food and 120 backpacks filled with school supplies to families.
