United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County, in partnership with DePelchin Children’s Center, proudly opened the first resource center for San Antonio families in November. The United Way Eastside Family Resource Center is open to residents in zip codes 78219 and 78220 to learn how to access critical community resources available to them.

Trained staff from the DePelchin Children’s Center will help each family find the support programs they need and assist them in the application process if needed. These caring, compassionate resource coordinators are ready to help navigate the complex array of resources in San Antonio.

Some of the challenges that families can find assistance with include workforce training and education programs, finding affordable child care, food insecurity and locating reliable housing.

Family Resource Centers are lauded across the country as a successful way to deliver community-based programming that improves economic stability and strengthens families through peer support.

“It reminds me of the old adage that we all know, ‘It takes a village to raise a child.’ In this city, like most others, families need help. This model of a family resource center works,” said San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg. “It doesn’t matter who you are, where you live or what your circumstances are; you deserve a chance to thrive.”

Whether visitors are looking for family engagement activities, access to affordable child care, family support services or the many critical issues that our community faces, they will be able to find help here at no cost.

In addition to support finding community resources that can change lives, this center will also feature a computer lab, a children’s book library and a basic necessities closet that will be completely free for visitors to access.

The United Way Eastside Family Resource Center is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and open Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. After-hours appointments are available upon request.
