United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County’s 2-1-1 Helpline is ready to assist residents in need due to the end of the Covid-19 continuous Medicaid coverage.

Originally passed at the start of the pandemic in 2020 in the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA), continuous Medicaid coverage was designed to keep people continuously enrolled in Medicaid through the month in which the COVID-19 public health emergency ended. Starting April 1, states will be able to resume Medicaid disenrollments.

San Antonio and Bexar County residents are strongly encouraged to call United Way’s 2-1-1 Helpline and select option 1 to find out how they can check to see how this will affect their Medicaid benefits and to discover community resources to fill gaps left by the end of this provision. Between 5 million to 14 million people are estimated to lose Medicaid coverage due to this change through the end of 2023.

By selecting option one after calling 2-1-1, call specialists will direct callers to services that offer assistance with this difficult transition, like resources that:

  • Help residents re-enroll in Medicaid
  • Access to affordable health clinics
  • Offsetting the financial burden of losing Medicaid coverage by connecting to assistance with utility bills, affordable housing and child care
  • Prescription expense assistance

United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County encourages everyone impacted by the end of continuous Medicaid coverage to call the 2-1-1 Helpline today to discover resources that can fill the gap left by this change. The 2-1-1 Helpline uses a comprehensive database of services available in San Antonio and is open 24/7/365. It is always anonymous and completely free to use. Spanish language and line language translation options are available as well.
