DISRUPTING THE CYCLE OF POVERTY

We believe that when children are surrounded by strong families and healthy communities, they can break the cycle of poverty, achieve greater stability and fulfill their potential.

Dual Generation answers the challenges created by poverty by coordinating the expertise of its many partners to create solutions for finding housing, education, child care and employment.

The Dual Generation Initiative is an unprecedented community-wide solution that coordinates the expertise of its partners who bring decades of experience serving children and families to help them find safe housing, education, child care and employment. We are creating hope by removing barriers and enabling families to achieve greater stability and success.

Our Work in Action

CHILD CARE

For many families living in the East and West Sides of San Antonio, covering everyday needs seems nearly impossible. Quality child care is often not available, not affordable or not meeting age-level standards. United Way focuses on supporting children and families through home visitation, improved infant and toddler care, and access to Early Head Start/Head Start and all-day Pre-K.

EDUCATION

For generations, poverty and a lack of education have held people back from achieving more for themselves and their loved ones. United Way is working on school readiness for children and adults. Assisting with parenting skills, financial education, trade certifications, post-secondary degrees and advanced post-secondary degrees, we’re fighting poverty with a multi-generational approach.

JOBS

Families without choices and opportunities have a lower quality of life and self-sufficiency is impeded. Giving parents the chance to succeed positions families for stability and the ability to thrive, which fortifies the whole community. United Way is working on lowering illiteracy, helping with adult coaching and education, and providing employment pathways.
