FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –Help San Antonio families further their education while accessing quality, affordable child care by participating in United Way’s 2023 Power of the Purse auction and raffle. United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County’s Women United Power of the Purse auction will open to the public online starting Tuesday, April 18. Check out the handbags available in the auction on uwsatx.org today!

Presented by the Mays Family Foundation, the auction will feature over 100 of stylish, designer purses and a raffle with prizes valued at $650 or above. Handbags include brands like YSL, Kate Spade, Michael Kors and much more. This one-of-a-kind auction isn’t just a great way to find your next favorite handbag. In last year’s auction, we raised $200,000! This year we hope to raise even more so that we can provide even more life-changing scholarships.

Access to affordable, quality child care is one of the largest barriers families in San Antonio face today.  When combined with the cost of obtaining a degree or certificate, it stands as a barrier for parents trying to improve their family’s economic stability. United Way’s Child Care Scholarships, the signature cause of Women United, provides families with an average of $14,000 in child care each year. These scholarships have a multi-generational impact on families like Jennifer’s, who used the scholarship to earn her bachelor’s degree at Our Lady of the Lake University.

“I was able to work and take classes and not postpone finishing my degree,” Jennifer said. The scholarship also empowered her daughter to thrive in her early childhood education because of the quality care they received. “They have increased my daughter’s social and emotional skills.”

Each year, United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County support dozens of families with Child Care Scholarships. You can make a difference by participating in the Power of the Purse virtual auction, with no cost to participate in the auction. A raffle ticket costs just $25 per ticket and each prize is valued at $650 or more. By purchasing a raffle ticket, you have a chance to win one of our tremendous prizes and support parents pursuing their education like Jennifer.

We encourage everyone to participate in the virtual auction on April 18 and to purchase a raffle ticket. By doing so, you can assist the United Way Child Care Scholars as they attain their degrees and build a more stable foundation for their family’s future.
