FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — During United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County’s annual Write Start Project, more than $30,000 in school supplies were donated. These supplies, for which teachers often pay out of their own pocket, will be distributed to educators in North East Independent School District (NEISD) on Monday, August 10th.
United Way, in partnership with NEISD, will host a press conference on this date with volunteers and teachers to show our appreciation for educators before our volunteers load up their vehicles to distribute the supplies to teachers throughout NEISD. All high school teachers and select middle and elementary school teachers will receive classroom supplies at no cost to them.
Supplies that teachers will receive include composition notebooks, crayons, highlighters and other crucial items. Research shows that Texas school teachers spend more out of their own pockets than teachers from any other state, with the average teacher spending $800+ per year on supplies for their classrooms.
The Write Start Project from United Way aims to provide relief to the teachers in NEISD receiving these supplies.
The Write Start Project is made possible through the generosity of H-E-B and other sponsors.
Media is encouraged to attend, talk with volunteers, United Way staff and more.
