San Antonio, TX — United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County is excited to announce new investment strategies that will make the community a better place to live, work and grow. These strategic investments include programs that serve 12 indicators of community strength, including services that accomplish the following and more:
- Prevents child abuse
- Improves early childhood learning
- Increases math and reading proficiency for students
- Improves mental health in youth and adults
- Promotes economic mobility
In May, United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to all nonprofit organizations that provide health and human services in the community.
71 nonprofit organizations were chosen to receive funding over the next five years. These investments will allow these organizations to provide programs that help young children, students, individuals and families thrive in their personal and professional lives. Of the nonprofits selected, 21 are new United Way partners who will provide new insight and expertise to solve our community’s biggest challenges.
The selected proposals align with United Way’s impact work with young children, students and families. From 2025 through 2030, approximately $15 million will be invested annually in these community programs, depending on United Way’s annual community campaign results.
United Way volunteers reviewed more than $58 million dollars in annual funding requests across 200+ program proposals from 168 organizations, making this the most competitive request for proposal process in United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County’s history.
“Making decisions on which proposals to invest in was a challenging process for our volunteers, especially when you receive requests for far more than you are able to invest,” said Chris Martin, president and chief executive officer for United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County. “Volunteers chose applications that most strongly aligned with our strategies and demonstrated the most potential to meet the evolving needs of our community.”
United Way funds selected partners for a period of five years to ensure they have the necessary time to develop and implement programs that will have a meaningful impact on the community. The addition of new partners in each five-year investment cycle allows us to increase our collective impact and empower new programs to support the community.
