FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — There are only a few weeks left for tax season and that means San Antonio residents can use the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) until April 15 to file their taxes for free.

So far this tax season, VITA has:

  • Saved residents $1.89 million in tax-preparation fees
  • Filed taxes for 8,000+ households
  • Connected filers to $16.4 million in tax refunds

VITA is brought to the community through a partnership between United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County, Catholic Charities and the City of San Antonio. Residents with household income up to $65,000 can visit any of the 12 VITA sites throughout the community to have their taxes prepared by a trained, friendly tax preparer at no cost. Every VITA volunteer is required to complete 20 hours of training and pass an IRS examine to prepare tax returns.

To reach more residents this year, VITA pop-up sites have been hosted throughout the city in locations other than the main 12 sites which are open Monday through Friday. Each location also offers services in Spanish.

VITA services are available at 12 locations throughout the community until April 15.

For information on documents needed when filing your taxes with VITA, locations, hours or more, please visit vitasa.org or call 2-1-1 and select option 1.
