FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County has officially launched the Help Me Grow Helpline, a new tool for families with developmental, behavioral and learning concerns for their young children.

All Bexar County residents can call 1-866-GROW210 (1-866-476-9210) now to speak with a specially-trained United Way Care Coordinator to answer questions related to pregnancy, parenting or child development. Callers also receive a free developmental screening for their children. Screenings examine the developmental, behavioral and learning concerns that a parent may have for their young child, ages 0 through 5.

The screening will help parents track their development milestones, like saying their first words or taking their first steps, help identify the progress being made and what areas that the children may need some encouragement or support. The screenings are always free and completely confidential.

After the screening, the United Way Care Coordinator will help parents navigate and connect to the life-changing resources available in the community.

Residents should call the Help Me Grow Helpline if they:

  • Are pregnant and have prenatal concerns or need support.
  • Have questions about how your child plays, learns, speaks or acts.
  • Need support to access community services and programs.
  • Would like more information on parenting.
  • Seeking information about developmental services for a client, family member or friend.

“We have made the screening process as accessible and friendly as possible to parents, who we know may have concerns about their child’s development but may be apprehensive to seek help,” said Audrey Rost, Director of Grants for the Ready Children Impact Area for United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County. “There are resources available for parents that can help with whatever developmental concern they may have for their child and Help Me Grow will point you in the right direction and walk alongside you on your journey to making sure your child grows up happy, healthy and ready.”

The Help Me Grow Helpline is available Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Help Me Grow is completely free for callers and available in Spanish. Calls after hours can be scheduled as needed and calls received after hours will be returned the following business day.

For b-roll of calls to the Help Me Grow Helpline, in both English and Spanish, please visit our press kit. For more information, visit the Help Me Grow website.
