FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County encourages local seniors and people with disabilities to take advantage of Project Cool to get a free box fan for their home. This is the final weekend to request a free box fan by calling United Way’s 2-1-1 Helpline, which will be available for callers through September 30th.
Project Cool is a partnership between United Way, the City of San Antonio, Catholic Charities and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul that delivers box fans to seniors in the hope of providing life-saving or utility bill-reducing relief.
Despite 100+ degree days seemingly being behind San Antonio, these box fans can provide relief throughout the year and help prepare households for when the weather inevitably heats up next year.
Residents who are not senior citizens can still discover critical relief from the weather with 2-1-1. Call United Way’s 2-1-1 Helpline, select option 1 and you can:
- Get a free box fan if you are a senior over the age of 55 or disabled
- Find free home weatherization services/assistance in your area to prepare for the winter or next summer
- Locate the nearest cooling centers to receive more immediate relief
- Find information on food pantries, utility bill assistance or other services that can help provide financial relief as your monthly utility bill soars in cost due to the heat.
We encourage the people of San Antonio to call United Way’s 2-1-1 Helpline to find assistance with the summer heat. 2-1-1 is open 24/7/365, anonymous and always free. Spanish language and line language translation options are available.
